Ref: DCLM Retreat children message

John 3:1-18,36; Luke 13:1-5; Matthew 4:17.

The Bible is filled with warnings from God. God is not silent about hell because He loves us and does not want anyone to perish. Jesus warns us and clearly says that the fire in hell shall never be quenched (put out) and the suffering will be forever. Hell is for sinful boys and girls and all the nations that forget God (Matthew 10:28; Psalm 9:17). Be warned, all who end up in hell will suffer, weep and gnash their teeth in regret but it will be too late. Today is the time to heed God’s warning. You must repent right now! Now is the day of salvation. The message is divided into three points for better understanding.

People are usually warned beforehand in order to avoid danger. I could come in different forms such as traffic caution signs, electrical danger signs, restriction signs on construction sites and verbal warnings from one person to the other. Wise people don’t neglect warning signs. God’s warning to sinners is a caution or notice so that they can escape His coming Judgment.

 John 3:1-18,36; Genesis 3:1-13; Romans 3:23.

The way of sinners is the lifestyle of disobedience and wickedness. A sinner is a boy or girl that disobeys God’s commandment. Sin is disobedience to God and His word. It is rebellion against God. Sin manifests itself through lying, stealing, fighting, cheating, murder,

fornication etc. Adam and Eve were created and put in the Garden of Eden to enjoy God’s presence and fellowship. They disobeyed God by eating the fruit in the middle of the garden (forbidden fruit). Then, hid themselves from the presence of God because of their sin. This single act of disobedience led to the fall of man. Since the fall of Adam and Eve, everyone born into the world comes with a sinful nature. At a tender age, children already know how to abuse, fight, lie, steal, disobey instructions and do many other evil things (Psalm 51:5). This corruption of the human nature involves the inborn desire to commit sin that will lead to God’s punishment.

There are great consequences for disobeying God and living in sin. The Bible clearly states that “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). As a result of the fall of Adam and Eve, the following punishment came upon all men: (i) Loss of fellowship with God – The guilt for the bad thing that they had done, made Adam and Eve to hide from God. (ii) Loss of the beautiful garden – Adam’s perfect relationship with God was lost. He was now driven out of the garden to suffer trials and afflictions in the hand of Satan. (iii) They came under the curse – Trouble, sorrow, sicknesses, oppression,

bondage and many other things became the lot of Adam and the human race. (iv) Spiritual, moral and physical death – The nature of man became sinful, his relationship with God was destroyed, he became subject to physical and eternal death. This is the serious

situation of all who still remain in sin. We would have all perished but for the love of God, who sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins (John 3:16). Now we have no excuse to remain in sin, we are called to repent and receive pardon from our loving God.

 Luke 13:1-5; Psalm 9:17; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:10-15.

God in His love and mercy is warning sinners so that they can repent and avoid eternal punishment in hell fire. Jesus is still warning all sinners today: “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:3). Hell, fire is a real place of everlasting torment and punishment for sinners and wicked children who refused to heed God’s warning to repent and accept Jesus. This is stated clearly in the Bible “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:17). “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8). The book of Revelation 20: 10-15, further reveals hell fire as ‘the Lake of Fire and brimstone’.

A place of final punishment for the Devil, antichrist, false prophets and ‘whosoever was not found written in the book of life’. Hell, fire exists, it is a real place full of fire and brimstone. It is prepared for sinful boys and girls who die in their sins without Jesus Christ as the Saviour of their souls. They will be tormented there forever. That is why Jesus calls it a place of ‘…EVERLASTING FIRE…’ (Matthew 25:41). Jesus is still warning all sinners today by using the illustration of the rich man that ended up in hell fire in Luke 16: 20-31. The Richman went to Hell because he did not take the word of God seriously. He lived as he liked and died in sin. This should make you to think very deeply. It is time to humble yourself before God and repent. Make peace with God before it is too late. You have only one life to live. Only one choice, either heaven or hell.

There is a way of escape today but tomorrow may be too late and “…what shall it profit a man, (child) if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).

 Matthew 4:17; John 14:6; Ezekiel 3:17-21.

To escape means to be free from danger or punishment. Jesus is the Way of escape from God’s judgment and punishment. To escape God’s punishment, you must decide to turn away from sin and accept Jesus as your personal Saviour. You must act quickly on that decision before it is too late. God is warning you because He loves you. He showed this by sending Jesus His only begotten Son to die for our sins. Though all have sinned, yet, God is not interested in the death of sinners. He wants us to reconcile with Him and be saved.

Therefore, all a sinner needs to do is to “come!” “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18). (a) Accept that you are a sinner (b) Confess your sins to God (c) Repent of them (d) Forsake them (e) Ask Jesus to  cleanse you in His blood (f) Invite Him into your life as Saviour and Lord (g) Believe and thank Him for your salvation. (h) Start attending fellowship regularly so as to remain in Jesus and grow in Him (i) Do not go back to your bad ways but start warning others by preaching the gospel regularly.

As friends of Jesus, we are ‘watchmen’ for God over all the people around us (Ezekiel 3:17-19). We are to warn sinners of God’s coming judgment and show them the way of escape.

We are to do this by preaching the gospel of salvation at all times to sinners in our homes, communities, streets, schools and market places. We do this by sharing the testimony of our salvation, gospel tracts and magazines, inviting people to church programmes and living a shining life that will draw sinners to Jesus. We shall receive great blessings here

on earth and in heaven as you heed God’s warning and follow Jesus till the end.
